The oldest of three children, Derbyshire has two siblings; sister Alexandra Derbyshire and brother Nicholas Derbyshire. Victoria has been vocal about her father's physical and verbal abuse.
"My mum has always been, and still is, absolutely brilliant," she told The Guardian. "It was very much us four against him..he was aggressive and violent and.....not loving in any way. Not like a father should be."
The 52-year-old attended Bury Grammar School for Girls. She later studied English language and literature at the University of Liverpool. Victoria also took a postgraduate diploma course in radio and TV journalism at Preston Polytechnic, now known as the University of Central Lancashire.
