Born Doris A. Smith on 25th September 1952 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, the United States of America. Her nationality is American and comes of Afro-American ethnic descent. 

Following her high school graduation, she enrolled in the Fashion Institute of Technology. She grew up alongside her siblings Normal Smith and Willi Smith. Willi was a fashion designer who passed away in 1987 due to AIDS-related pneumonia.

She then joined the cast of the 1987 film Talkin’ Dirty After Dark as a waitress. The movie stars Martin Lawrence, Mark Curry, John Witherspoon, Ken Davitian, and Jedda Jones. 

Toukie also starred in the 1996 American musical-comedy film Joe’s Apartment starring Jerry O’Connell, Megan Ward, Jim Turner, Robert Vaughn, and Don Ho. 

In 1999, Smith joined the cast of Goosed and starred alongside Jenner Tilly, Lisa Jane Persky, and Joan Rivers. 

Some of her other notable acting credits include Miami Vice, Me and Him, I Like It Like That, and The Preacher’s Wife.

Besides acting, Smith has a successful print career as well. Her print work includes a photo campaign for Yves St. Laurent and magazines like Vogue, ELLE, Redbook, Seventeen, and Cosmopolitan.

She was in a long-term relationship with legendary actor Robert De Niro. The couple began dating in 1985 and were together for over a decade until 1996. The couple welcomed twin sons Aaron Kendrick De Niro and Julian Henry De Niro in 1995. 

The babies were conceived by in vitro fertilization and delivered by a surrogate mother. 

As of now, Smith resides in New York City in Battery Park City along with her family.
