Susan Mikula

Susan Mikula is an American artist and photographer, who has worked in the art industry and served on an art jury for a long time. She has been in a relationship with political commentator Rachel Maddow, since 1999.

Mikula is currently 62 years old. She was born on March 7, 1958, in New Jersey, USA. Susan grew up in the urban/industrial New Jersey before relocating to a small New Hampshire town with her family.

The 62-year-old comes from a family of photographers; her parents were fond of capturing Mikula’s early years in New Jersey and later in New Hampshire, and Mikula's sister works as a medical photographer in Boston. Susan graduated from Hampshire College in 1976.

Susan Mikula & Rachel Maddow: Do they have children?

Susan and Rachel first met in 1999, after she hired Maddow to work on her yard, having told mutual friends that she needed a "yard boy". 

Maddow, 47, had just moved to the area to complete her doctoral dissertation. "Zing went the heartstrings," both recalled! Their first date took place at the "Ladies Day on the Range" event.  

A year-and-a-half later, on Halloween, Rachel moved in and both have been inseparable ever since. The couple has no children as of now. They split their time between Manhattan, New York, and rural Western Massachusetts, where they own a pre-Civil War farmhouse.

A few weeks ago, Mikula tested positive for COVID-19, her partner revealed on November 19 while hosting The Rachel Maddow Show from her home. "At one point, we really thought that there was a possibility that it might kill her," the 47-year-old program host added.

According to Maddow, Susan is now "recovering" from the virus, and mentioned that she will continue to quarantine and broadcast from home to avoid any risk of cross-contamination.
