Shane landed the role of Alfie Moon on BBC One's soap opera EastEnders in 2002. He revealed that he had lost nearly $1 million and was facing bankruptcy at the time. The 56-year-old won numerous awards for his performance in the show, including Best Male European Actor at the Rose D'or Festival and Most Popular Actor at the National Television Awards.

Richie has been married to actress Christie Goddard since July 21, 2007. Both first met through mutual friends after a performance of his pantomime "Jack and the Beanstalk" in December 2001. He popped the question at Christie's 26th birthday party in April 2005. 

Together, Shane and his wife Christie have three children: son Mackenzie Blue Roche, born on April 23, 2006, daughters Lolita Bell Roche, born on July 28, 2008, and Romani-Skye Angel Shelley Roche, born on April 27, 2011.

He married his first wife, actress Coleen Nolan, in 1990. They tied the knot in a gazebo by a lake in Orlando, Florida, on March 8, 1990. They have two children together: sons Shane Richie Jr., born on December 2, 1988, and Jake Peter Roche, born on September 16, 1992.

Richie and his ex-wife, Coleen, became grandparents for the first time when their son Shane Richie Jr. and his girlfriend Emma welcomed a daughter, Amelia Rose Roche, on January 13, 2016.
