Sarah Barthel

Sarah Barthel is an American singer-songwriter who is best known as the multi-instrumentalists and vocalists of the electro-rock duo, Phantogram. She was previously in a relationship with Olympic gold medalist Shaun White.

The 38-year-old stated that her sister suffered from depression and anxiety “her entire life,” resorted to alcohol, and had “attempted suicide a couple of times.”

“I am growing through this process with the help of therapy, but there isn’t a day that goes by that I don’t blame myself, and the other people in her life, too. It’s the heaviest feeling to ever feel. Suicide is so hard to understand,” she said in an interview with American Foundation for Suicide Prevention.

Their friendship blossomed into love in 2014 when White ended up becoming a savior to distressed Barthel and Cartel, who had rented a “really terrible” home “way out in East L.A.” 

“I was like, ‘I got a house, there’s a house, you got a car, just take it, I’m training for the Olympics, I won’t be home. So her and her bandmate and some others came and stayed at my place and that’s kind of how things got going,” White told People.

Sarah and Shaun remained together for six years before splitting in late 2019. After ending his relationship with Barthel, White sparked dating rumors with actress Nina Dobrev in February 2020 after both shared similar pics from their South African safari.

Just a month after this, the two were snapped together, enjoying a bike ride in Malibu. Nina and Shaun confirmed their relationship in May 2020. As for Barthel, she is yet to reveal her current relationship status.
