Ruthie Henshall

Valentine Ruth Henshall, professionally known as Ruthie Henshall, is an English actress, singer, and dancer. She is best known for her work in musical theatre and won the Olivier Award for Best Actress in a Musical for her role in the London revival of She Loves Me in 1995.

The youngest of the four daughters, Ruthie had three older sisters; twins Noel and Susan Henshall and Abi Henshall. Noel died of an overdose of painkillers at the age of 49.

Her father, David Henshall, worked as a journalist and later as the editor of the East Anglian Daily Times. Ruthie trained at Laine Theatre Arts in Epsom, England before joining the UK Tour of A Chorus Line.

Henshall was married to Canadian musical theatre star Tim Howar from September 2004 to 2010. Together, they have two children: daughters, Lily Amalia Hower, born on 16 February 2003, and Dolly Olivia Hower, born on 14 January 2005. 

Ruthie had a very high-profile relationship with Prince Edward, Earl of Wessex, in the early 90s. The pair were first photographed together outside a restaurant in 1993. Both dated "solidly for a couple of years, but on and off for five", she told Desert Island Discs presenter Kirsty Young. 

The 53-year-old later got engaged to Scottish actor and novelist, John Gordon Sinclair, with whom she attended Prince Edward's wedding to Sophie Rhys Jones in 1999.
