India's Nightingale Lata Mangeshkar Is No More: The Whole Nation Mourns

Bollywood's Nightingale aka Voice of the Millennium Lata Mangeshkar died at the age of 92 on 6th February 2022. 

The sudden demise of the Queen of Melody left millions of fans and followers from all around the world in shock. Several Celebrities from Bollywood and even ministers expressed their griefs and tributes towards the grieving family.

The late singer reportedly tested positive for COVID-19 on 8th January 2022. She was admitted to Breach Candy Hospital's ICU due to mild symptoms and remained in the ICU until 28th January. She was taken out of the ICU with 'marginal improvement' in her health. 

However, on 5th February, she was put on a ventilator after her health deteriorated and underwent aggressive therapy.

Sadly, on 6th February, Mangeshkar passed away at the age of 92 due to Multiple Organ Dysfunction Syndrome due to COVID-19. Although she was undergoing 28 days of treatment at the hospital, in the end, she couldn't make it. 

In honor of Lata, the Government of India announced two days of national mourning and from 6 to 7 February, the National Flag will fly at half-mast. 

Similarly, President Ram Nath Kovind, Vice President Venkaiah, along with several ministers and chief ministers expressed their condolences and moral support to the grieving family. 

PM Narendra Modi posted a series of tweets where he wrote:

"I am anguished beyond words. The kind and caring Lata Didi has left us. She leaves a void in our nation that cannot be filled. The coming generations will remember her as a stalwart of Indian culture, whose melodious voice had an unparalleled ability to mesmerise people,"

He also added: "I consider it my honour that I have always received immense affection from Lata Didi. My interactions with her will remain unforgettable. I grieve with my fellow Indians on the passing away of Lata Didi. Spoke to her family and expressed condolences. Om Shanti,"

As per reports, Mangeshkar's remains will be transferred to her residence Prabhakunj located in Peddar Road to pay homage and around 4:30 pm her body will be shifted to Shivaji Park where she will be cremated. 

Celebrities From All Around Pay Tribute To The Nightingale Of India

With the untimely demise of Bollywood's gem, the whole nation mourns her death and while some mourn her loss in silence, some expressed their emotions via social media. 

Singer Shreya Ghoshal tweeted, "Feeling numb. Devastated. Yesterday was Saraswati Puja & today Ma took her blessed one with her. Somehow it feels that even the birds, trees & wind are silent today. Swar Kokila Bharat Ratna #LataMangeshkar ji your divine voice will echo till eternity. Rest in peace. Om Shanti."

Former cricket star Virender Sehwag also tweeted, "The Nightingale of India,a voice which has resonated with, brought joy and happiness to millions around the world leaves. Heartfelt Condolences to her family and fans. Om Shanti"

Likewise, actor Akshay Kumar also took to Twitter and expressed his grief writing, "Meri Awaaz Hi Pehchaan Hain, Gar Yaad Raheā€¦and how can one forget such a voice! Deeply saddened by the passing away of Lata Mangeshkar ji, my sincere condolences and prayers. Om Shanti"

Let Us Go Through Her Short Career Highlights

Hema 'Lata' Mangeshkar was born on 28th September 1929 in Indore State, British Raj to late musician Deenanath Mangeshkar and Shevanti Mangeshkar. She grew up alongside her younger siblings Meena Khadikar, Asha Bhosle, Usha Mangeshkar, and Hridaynath Mangeshkar. 

She received music lessons from her father and at the young age of five, she started working as an actress in her father's musical plays. 

Her first song ever recorded was 'Naachu Yaa Gade, Khelu Saari Mani Haus Bhaari' for the 1942 film Kiti Hasaal. 

Some of her best 90s songs are Didi Tera Dewar Dewana, Tujhe Dekha To, Dil Toh Pagal Hae, Mehendi Laga Ke Rakhna, and so on.

Since then, she allegedly recorded over 50,000 songs till 2022. Besides this, she won several awards and honors in her lifetime including Bharat Ratna, Padma Vibhushan, Padma Bhusan, Dabasaheb Phalke Award, Maharashtra Bhushan Award, and many more.
