Mel Metcalfe, a documentary filmmaker, is the first husband of an Australian-American businesswoman, former model, and actress, Amanda Lee Rogers, professionally known as Portia de Rossi.

His ex-wife is best known for starring as Nelle Porter in the drama series Ally McBeal from 1998 to 2002. She also garnered wide recognition for her portrayal of Lindsay Bluth Fünke in the television sitcom Arrested Development.

Meanwhile his ex-wife, Portia is 49 years old as of 2022. She was born on January 31, 1973, in Horsham, Victoria, Australia, to Margaret Rogers, a medical receptionist, and Barry Rogers, a part Jewish. She has an older brother, Michael Rogers.

Metcalfe & De Rossi were married from 1996 until 1999. While it is not known when the two first met and started dating, de Rossi petitioned for a dissolution of marriage with the Los Angeles Superior Court on February 3, 1999.

In her memoir Unbearable Lightness: A Story of Loss and Gain, the 49-year-old Australian actress admitted that she married Mel in order to get a green card to stay in the United States. 

However, she remarked that she "didn't get my green card through him — I couldn't do it at the end". After Metcalfe and de Ross divorced, he and Renee Kappos, wife of Portia's older brother Michael Rogers, quickly became a couple and ended up getting married in 2006. 

"He had married his longtime girlfriend, Renee, just before leaving Australia and the two newlyweds moved into an apartment in the same Melrose Place-style complex that was home to me and Mel," Portia wrote. 

In July 2020, Kappos celebrated their anniversary on her Instagram, posting an image from their wedding with the caption “Happy Anniversary 14 times, my amazing husband @melmmetcalfeiii.....You keep me laughing, and in love – pure gold."

Meanwhile, Portia, who came out as a lesbian in 2005, tied the knot with the comedian and television host Ellen DeGeneres in 2008. Two years later, she legally changed her name to Portia Lee James DeGeneres and became a US citizen in September 2011.
