Lynn Harriette Cohen was an American actress best known for her roles in film, television and theater. She is prominent for her playing Magda in the HBO series Sex and the City.
Lynn was born on August 10, 1933, in Kansas City, Missouri, USA, to parents Louis Kay, a salesman and Bertha Cornsweet Kay, who worked in retail. She grew up in a Jewish family. Cohen studied acting at Michael Howard Studios in New York City.
The late actress also spent a year at the University of Wisconsin and another one year at Northwestern University before moving to St. Louis in order to start acting in regional theater. While working in the theatre, she taught at a summer theater program.
Cohen married twice in her lifetime. She married her first husband Gilbert Laman Frazen on January 27, 1957. Together, they had a son named Laurence Frazen.
After remaining together for over a decade, both decided to end their marriage and separated in 1960. Lynn's second marriage was with actor and writer, Ronald Theodore Cohen.
The pair tied the knot on June 3, 1964 and moved to New York City during the 1970s. Lynn and Ronald remained together until her demise in 2020. They shared no kids together.
Cohen died on February 14, 2020 at her home in Manhattan. She was 86 years old at the time of her death. The cause of her death has not been revealed yet.
As per IMDb, she was cremated and her ashes were later scattered in the sea. Lynn is survived by her husband Ronald, son Laurence, and two grandchildren.
As per some online sources, Cohen had an estimated net worth of $1.5 million at the time of her death. She started her career in 1970s appearing in Off-Broadway productions for which she earned nominations for Drama League Award and Lucille Lortel Awards.
She appeared in Hamlet and Macbeth, to name a few. On Broadway, the late actress appeared in Orpheus and Ivanov. Her notable film role was in the 1993 black comedy Manhattan Murder Mystery, where she played the role of Lillian House.
Lynn had a recurring role as Magda in the HBO popular comedy series Sex and the City from 2000 to 2004. She also went on to reprise the role in the 2008 film Sex and the City and its 2010 sequel Sex and the City 2. Her other notable credits include The Vigil, The Hunger Games: Catching Fire, Nurse Jackie, I Shot Andy Warhol, and Law & Order.
