Robert James Smith is an English singer, songwriter, musician, and record producer, who is best known as the lead vocalist of the rock band The Cure, which he co-founded in 1976. Smith also served as a lead guitarist for the band Siouxsie and the Banshees in the early 1980s.
Smith is currently 61 years old as of now. He was born on April 21, 1959, in Blackpool, Lancashire, England, to Rita Mary Emmott and James Alexander Smith.
The third of four children, Smith came from a musical family; his father sang and his mother played the piano. At the age of three, he moved to Horley, Surrey, with his family and attended St Francis' Primary School.
The 61-year-old then attended St Francis' Junior School. Robert also attended Notre Dame Middle School from 1970 to 1972 and St Wilfrid's Comprehensive School from 1972 to 1977. Talking about his height, he is 5 ft and 10 in (1.78 m) tall.
Smith has a net worth of $25 million, as per Celebrity Net Worth. He has been the only constant member of the rock band The Cure, which was formed in Crawley, West Sussex, in 1978. Smith serves as a guitarist, lead vocalist, and songwriter of the band.
Their debut album, Three Imaginary Boys was released in May 1979. The album along with several of their early singles placed the band in the post-punk and new wave movements. With their second album, Seventeen Seconds, however, the band adopted a dark and tormented style, which ultimately had a strong influence on the emergence of gothic rock.
The record sales from their compilation album, Standing on a Beach, is estimated at $3 million. Moreover, the record sales from the album Kiss Me, Kiss Me, Kiss Me is estimated at $1.5 million, and the album, Disintegration, which sold 2 million copies in the US, approximately earned $3 million. Besides, Smith was part of the band Siouxsie and the Banshees from 1982 to 1984, and the short-lived group The Glove in 1983.
Smith is married to his high school sweetheart Mary Theresa Poole. The two first met in drama class at St Wilfrid's when Smith was 14.
Mary and Robert tied the knot on August 13, 1988, and have been together ever since. They have no children, with Smith stating he "does not feel responsible enough to bring a child into the world".
The couple has 25 nephews and nieces. Mary, 62, was a model and worked as a nurse with intellectually disabled children before The Cure earned success in the mid-80s. She left her day job so the couple could spend more time together.
